TO FIT

Verbo ‘andare bene’, ‘starci’, ‘stare’ (come dimensioni).

That sofa doesn’t fit in your living room.
Quel divano non ci sta nel tuo salotto. (è troppo grande)

All these suitcases won’t fit in my car.
Tutte queste valigie non entreranno nella mia auto. (non ci stanno come dimensioni)

Can we fit in this room?
Ci stiamo in questa stanza?

- Fit through: ‘passare attraverso’.

This desk doesn’t fit through the door.
Questa scrivania non passa attraverso la porta. (la porta è troppo stretta)

- Per gli abiti ‘stare bene’, essere della giusta misura.

This skirt fits well.
Questa gonna mi sta bene (è della misura giusta).

These shoes don’t fit me any more.
Queste scarpe non mi stanno più.

Surprisingly, your jacket fitted me.
Sorprendentemente, la tua giacca mi stava.


TO SUIT

Verbo ‘essere adatto’, ‘andare bene’.

This weather doesn’t suit her.
Questo clima non è adatto per lei.

Come any time that suits you.
Vieni all’ora che ti va bene.

- What time suits you for the dinner?
A che ora ti va bene per la cena?
- Around 8 would suit me fine.
Mi andrebbe bene intorno alle 8.

- Per gli abiti ‘stare bene’ addosso, ‘addirsi’.

This skirt suits me.
Questa gonna mi sta bene. (non tanto per la misura, ma perché mi sta bene addosso e magari si abbina bene con gli altri vestiti)

Yellow really suits you.
Il giallo ti dona veramente. (Ti sta veramente bene)
